How is Cuil doing?

I blogged about this David and Goliath story a few weeks ago. The brave new search engine up against the beast that is search.

How'd they do?

Well, so far...not very well. At the initial inception of www.Cuil.com the buzz was loud and proud. So loud, Cuil recieved 1.5 million visits in it's first month. With a channel of that many people this had to be good, I thought there might be a chance. I was wrong.

Since then Cuil has dropped 70% of it's traffic every month. Cuil is 180k visits strong every month from the same people. Sad day for the underdog.

Can another search engine Cuil down Googles’ reign?…

While I do think it's brave to be the opponent of Goliath, it's not the best position to be in without a slingshot. If you haven't heard...there's a new search engine in town and it's supposed to be the Cuilest thing since sliced bread. I'm not sure how I feel about it yet, however, there's a David in every army and every giant Mae fall on their Fannie.

I've been watching the progression of Search Marketing and the evolution of the search engine and it's pretty sewed up by the Google crew. Even with the sinister trend data collection, they do a great job of giving the users relevant data, they give developers great tools to use and optimize websites and they have an awesome display of marketing possiblities that can help site owners grow and track the growth of their business online.

It's going to take a serious slingshot from www.cuil.com to bring down www.google.com . While i do like their approach to keeping the users info private, they have a lot of ground to cover on the side of relevancy. I've searched a number of times with this engine and found it to display nothing more than everything I don't want to see. Users need to see a lot more sizzle from these guys if their going to capture market share from www.google.com .

My prediction, Cuil will take a stab at Google...Google will swing back with a mighty blow...aaaannd splat...Cuil is gone. I don't see a young shepard with a slingshot in this story. Sorry Cuil.
