I’m a PC and my commercials are terrible.

By Rory Carlyle

Is anyone else getting tired of the Microsoft commercials airing lately?

Apple has been giving Microsoft a swift pounding for quite some time now regarding television advertising. The long awaited rebuttle from Microsoft has been anything but good. I’ve seen some of the current, “I’m a PC” commercials and I can’t do anything except cringe.  The idea that sub par webcam quality video snippets from PC users with terrible fashion taste spewing random lines of nothing will produce a homerun comeback for the much embarrassed computer giant does nothing but make the company look that much worse. It just gleams of I’m a dork and my commercials are dorky too. As my mother-in-law would say…”Diva No!”

The interesting perspective on this Mac/PC battle for the user is that the Apple ads portray PC in a more lovable role. I spoke with some of my peers and they love the PC character in the Apple ads. They can’t remember a line from the PC ads, but they can turn around and quote an entire Apple commercial….and they’re PC users!

Message to Microsoft: Hire the same marketing agency that works for Apple…your stuff sucks.

  1. Great insight on this. Microsoft has even begun to launch commercials with comedian Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates attempting to attract more PC users.

I agree with you that more intellectual, creative, and appealing “Apple pounding” advertisements are the only hope Microsoft has to sway consumers.

The sad thing is Apple is demolishing Microsoft, and Microsoft’s response? …”I’m outdated, lame, and boring but hey, I’m still a PC.”
